Pekins
Pekins are wonderful balls of chickeny fluff...brilliant with children, docile, small enough for any garden, and with feathered feet that keep your garden in better condition than most chickens. They're a true bantam, meaning there is no large fowl counterpart.
I keep and breed a number of different colours, in flat-feather and frizzled form, and I'm passionate about the breed. All of the pekins I hatch are handled from the moment they've dried out in the incubator, regularly come into the house, mooch around the garden with us and are generally a delight to have around. If space allowed, I'd keep every single one.
Due to their docile temperament and small size, this is a fantastic breed for children. Although they don't produce as many eggs as their hybrid cousins, and the eggs they do produce are small, they're just as tasty as any produced by large fowl. You can expect around 80-100 eggs a year.
